Chapter · 01

Description
A group of Americans living in Salvador decide that being far from home is no reason to skip the Fourth of July. What begins as a loud, improvised Independence Day celebration - complete with drinking, speeches, fireworks, and patriotic enthusiasm - slowly turns into something much bigger than anyone realizes. The Americans think they're simply throwing a memorable party. The city around them has other plans. Filled with wandering adventurers, tropical heat, political unrest, and O. Henry's trademark humor, the story feels like one long, chaotic holiday that accidentally stumbles into history.
