Description
In the heat-drenched stillness of a cantonment where laughter hides its own cruelty, a young officer—soft-faced, quiet-voiced, almost too delicate for the world around him—endures the slow pressure of a regiment that tests him for sport. But beneath the teasing and careless camaraderie, a promise is made, spoken lightly as a wager, half joke and half dare, until it begins to gather weight like something inevitable. Then, out of the night and the dust of familiar routines, a woman arrives who should not exist in the regiment’s understanding of him—lovely, certain, claiming him with the authority of truth and memory. What follows is not revelation, but collapse: identity torn open, certainty reversed, and a carefully amused world forced to confront how easily performance can become indistinguishable from reality.
