The Peace Offering

Description

In a countryside shaken by political hostility, a well-meaning Baroness recruits her guest Baroness and the irreverent wit Clovis to stage a Greek tragedy meant to restore social harmony through art. What begins as a decorative gesture of reconciliation quickly becomes entangled in ego, performance, and the fragile vanity of local society. As rehearsals unfold, the amateur cast turns classical drama into a battlefield of artistic control. Roles are inflated, dialogue is stolen, and symbolic grandeur is reshaped into personal advantage. The Baroness and Clovis, each convinced of their own interpretive brilliance, gradually transform the production into a private contest disguised as culture. On performance night, the carefully engineered harmony collapses under the weight of satire and miscommunication. Cassandra’s prophecy erupts into unintended political commentary, the audience recoils, and the County unites only in shared indignation. The intended peace offering becomes a sharper instrument of division, revealing how easily civility fractures under theatrical vanity and social pride.
