Description

A man who believes that life itself can be reduced to a perfectly regulated system recounts his rise through a series of increasingly absurd professions, each approached with the same unwavering conviction that chaos is only a failure of method. From childhood, where a physical accident becomes the foundation of his “organ of order,” he develops a philosophy in which genius is a flaw and routine is salvation. Every failure, injury, and expulsion is transformed into bookkeeping logic, profit calculation, or procedural refinement. As he moves through a chain of eccentric occupations—each more morally questionable and socially unstable than the last—he never abandons his belief that precision alone guarantees success. Fraud, violence, and absurdity become, in his mind, simply different formats of business. In Poe’s satirical portrait of modern rationality gone grotesque, efficiency becomes madness, and order reveals itself as a mask for relentless self-justification.
