Description
“A Warning to the Curious” is a supernatural horror short story by M. R. James, first published in 1925. Set on the atmospheric English coast at Seaburgh, it follows an amateur antiquarian who disturbs an ancient Anglo-Saxon crown said to be bound to a protective legend. What begins as scholarly curiosity turns into a slow, oppressive haunting, where unseen forces pursue him with growing inevitability. Like much of M. R. James’s work, the story builds terror through suggestion, detail, and an increasingly claustrophobic sense of being watched.
