A Troublesome Visitor

A
Anton Chekhov
Fiction

Description

Not every disruption comes loudly - some arrive politely, speak calmly, and still unsettle everything they touch. A visitor enters a seemingly ordinary environment where routine, order, and social comfort quietly govern daily life. At first, the interaction appears harmless, even banal. But as the conversation unfolds, the visitor’s presence begins to shift the atmosphere - exposing tensions, irritations, and unspoken discomforts that were already there. What makes the “trouble” is not chaos, but the way normality starts to crack under polite pressure. People reveal more through restraint than through conflict, and the smallest intrusion becomes strangely difficult to contain. Chekhov turns a simple visit into a study of social friction - where etiquette and discomfort coexist in the same breath.
