1. The Legend of Cagamelo Cruz and His Faithful Wyrm, Bafo de Mosca

Chapter 1

A Friendship Born in Fire

On an apparently ordinary day, a boy named Gustavo da Cruz was taking a peaceful walk through a forest. Sunlight filtered through the treetops, illuminating small patches of the ground and making the leaves shimmer in different shades of green. A gentle breeze swept through the forest, moving the branches and spreading the pleasant sounds of nature throughout the surroundings.

Gustavo walked without a care in the world, observing everything around him. Every now and then, he would stop to admire an especially large tree or watch small animals crossing his path. It was a pleasant walk, and he was enjoying the peaceful atmosphere of the place.

As he continued walking, he began thinking about what he would do once he got home. Perhaps he would prepare something to eat, or simply look for something already made in the kitchen. He hadn't decided yet, but one thing was certain: he was hungry.

However, his thoughts were interrupted by a rather unpleasant sensation.

At first, Gustavo ignored the discomfort, believing it was just a minor stomachache. He continued walking for a few more meters, trying not to pay attention to it. Unfortunately, the situation quickly began to get worse.

His large intestine seemed to have decided that this was the perfect moment to demand his attention.

Gustavo immediately stopped.

He looked around, searching for a place where he could take care of his problem without being disturbed. The forest, which had seemed like an extremely pleasant environment until then, had suddenly become a real challenge.

Without wasting any more time, he hurried toward a few trees farther away from the trail. He spotted a relatively large bush and decided it would be his hiding place.

Gustavo: "Oh, dear gods! What the hell did I eat to end up with such a terrible stomachache?"

He grumbled as he tried to find a comfortable position. Eventually, he managed to settle down behind the vegetation and began answering nature's call.

For a few moments, everything seemed to return to normal.

The wind continued to blow, the birds kept singing, and the forest remained peaceful. Gustavo, meanwhile, was enjoying his moment of peace, although he deeply regretted his previous food choices.

Gustavo: "I'm never eating that crap again. I swear by the gods, never again."

A few seconds later, while wondering how he had managed to turn a pleasant walk into such an embarrassing situation, he heard a noise coming from a nearby bush.

At first, he thought it was some small animal. Perhaps a rabbit or something similar. However, the sound repeated itself, this time accompanied by a much stronger movement among the leaves.

Gustavo stopped thinking.

Gustavo: "...What was that?"

He remained motionless for a few seconds, trying to identify where the noise had come from. He looked at the surrounding vegetation, but couldn't see absolutely anything.

The bush moved again.

This time, Gustavo felt a shiver run down his spine.

Gustavo: "Oh, crap! Now I'm screwed."

He tried to remain calm, although his imagination was already running wild.

Gustavo: "What if it's a snake? What if it bites me? And worse, what if it bites me right on the ass? I'm doomed!"

The noise grew louder.

Gustavo seriously began considering abandoning everything and running away. However, before he could make any decision, a reddish glow appeared between the leaves.

The next instant, a huge burst of flames shot out from behind the bush.

Gustavo screamed and jumped to his feet so quickly that he almost tripped over himself.

The flames gradually disappeared, leaving a small amount of smoke in the air. Among the burnt branches, a creature began to reveal itself.

It was a Wyrm.

Gustavo stood completely still, staring at the unfamiliar creature. His brain seemed incapable of processing what was happening. After all, he had only left home to take a walk, and until a few minutes ago, his biggest concern had been finding something to eat.

Now he was standing in front of a creature that had just breathed fire.

Gustavo: "What the hell are you?!"

The Wyrm tilted its head slightly, observing the boy.

Gustavo took a few steps backward, keeping his eyes fixed on the creature. He tried to find an explanation for the situation, but nothing seemed to make sense.

The Wyrm opened its mouth again.

Gustavo: "No, no, no! Don't even think about it!"

Another burst of flames shot toward the bush Gustavo had been sitting behind. The boy jumped to the side, barely escaping the fire.

Gustavo: "ARE YOU TRYING TO KILL ME, DAMMIT?!"

The creature let out a growl.

Gustavo fell silent.

So did the Wyrm.

The two stared at each other for a few seconds, as if they were trying to understand one another.

Gustavo took a deep breath and rubbed his face with one hand. He was still frightened, but his curiosity was beginning to overcome his fear. After all, it wasn't every day that someone encountered a fire-breathing creature while simply trying to answer nature's call.

Gustavo: "Wait a minute... Can you understand what I'm saying?"

The Wyrm tilted its head to the other side.

Gustavo: "Is that a yes or a no?"

The creature let out another growl, this time a little quieter.

Gustavo narrowed his eyes, carefully examining it. He observed its appearance, its movements, and the way it reacted to his words.

For some reason, he began to feel that the creature wasn't there simply to attack him.

Perhaps it was curious.

Perhaps it was trying to communicate.

Or perhaps Gustavo was going completely insane.

Gustavo: "You know what? I see potential in you."

The Wyrm remained still.

Gustavo: "Yes, you! I don't know exactly what you are, where you came from, or why you decided to show up while I was busy, but I think we can get along."

The creature let out a small growl.

Gustavo smiled.

Gustavo: "Let's be friends!"

For a few moments, the Wyrm simply watched him. Then, to the boy's surprise, it chuckled and nodded its head in agreement.

Gustavo was completely astonished.

Gustavo: "Wait... Did you just laugh?"

The Wyrm growled again, apparently pleased.

Gustavo: "HA! I knew it! I already like you!"

At that moment, something that seemed impossible had happened. A boy who had gone out for a walk in the forest, without expecting anything extraordinary, had just befriended a creature he couldn't even identify.

However, their encounter was far from being just a coincidence.

What nobody knew, not even Gustavo himself, was that this friendship would completely change the course of his life. The bond between them would awaken unimaginable powers and give rise to one of the most loyal and enduring friendships that would last for centuries.

What had begun with an extremely embarrassing situation would eventually become a story that would be passed down through generations.
