1. The CEO’s Hidden Identity

Chapter 1

Chapter 1 The Man Behind the Mask

The city of New York never truly slept.

Even at midnight, its streets remained alive with glowing signs, speeding cars, and people chasing dreams that seemed impossible during the day.

At the center of that endless city stood Blackwood Tower, a sixty-story building covered in glass and steel.

Everyone knew the name behind it.

Adrian Blackwood.

At thirty-two, Adrian was one of the youngest and most powerful CEOs in the country. Business magazines called him a genius. Investors called him unstoppable. His employees called him terrifying.

He had built Blackwood Industries from almost nothing.

His photograph appeared on magazine covers, television screens, and business websites. Whenever Adrian entered a room, conversations became quieter.

But there was one thing nobody knew.

Adrian Blackwood was not the man everyone believed him to be.

The private elevator opened on the top floor.

Adrian stepped out, his black suit perfectly fitted, his expression cold and unreadable.

"Sir, the board meeting is ready," his assistant, Daniel, said.

Adrian glanced at his watch.

"Who is attending?"

"All senior executives. Mr. Carter is there as well."

Adrian stopped walking.

"Victor Carter?"

"Yes, sir."

A faint darkness appeared in Adrian's eyes.

"Then they are not ready for a meeting."

Daniel looked confused.

"What do you mean?"

Adrian continued toward his office.

"They are ready for a war."

Daniel followed silently.

Victor Carter had been trying to destroy Blackwood Industries for years. He was powerful, wealthy, and patient. More importantly, he knew something about Adrian's past.

Something Adrian had spent years trying to bury.

Inside the conference room, twelve executives sat around a long black table.

When Adrian entered, everyone immediately became silent.

He took his seat at the head of the table.

"Begin."

The financial director stood.

"Mr. Blackwood, our European expansion has faced unexpected problems. Two major investors have withdrawn, and someone appears to be leaking confidential information."

Adrian leaned back.

"Someone?"

The director swallowed.

"We believe there may be a traitor inside the company."

Adrian's eyes moved slowly across the room.

Nobody dared to meet his gaze.

Then the conference room doors opened.

Victor Carter walked inside without permission.

He wore an expensive gray suit and carried a small black folder.

"Adrian."

Adrian looked at him calmly.

"Victor."

Victor smiled.

"I hope I'm not interrupting."

"You are."

Victor laughed softly and placed the folder on the table.

"I came to remind you that every empire has a weakness."

Adrian didn't look at the folder.

"Leave."

Victor's smile disappeared.

"You haven't changed."

"Neither have you."

Victor leaned closer.

"But I know something about you that your shareholders don't."

The room became completely silent.

Adrian's fingers tightened slightly against the table.

Only Daniel noticed.

Victor opened the folder and revealed an old photograph.

Adrian's eyes froze.

The photograph showed a young boy standing beside a woman.

His mother.

Nobody in the room knew her.

Victor slowly closed the folder.

"I'll see you soon."

He walked out.

Adrian remained motionless.

"Everyone leaves," he ordered.

The executives immediately stood and left.

When the doors closed, Daniel approached him.

"Sir..."

Adrian picked up the folder.

"Find out why Victor has that photograph."

Daniel nodded.

"And if you discover anything?"

Adrian's expression hardened.

"Destroy it."

Meanwhile, several streets away, a young woman stepped out of a taxi.

Her name was Elena Moore.

She had recently returned to New York after spending five years abroad.

She held a small envelope in her hand.

Inside was a photograph.

The same photograph Victor had just shown Adrian.

Elena looked up at Blackwood Tower.

She didn't know why fate had brought her back to this city.

She only knew that the man she had been searching for was somewhere inside that building.

Adrian Blackwood.

The name had been haunting her family for years.

Her father had disappeared when she was seventeen.

Before his disappearance, he had left her one message:

"Never trust a Blackwood."

For years, Elena had believed those words were simply the anger of a broken man.

But three days ago, she had received an anonymous letter.

There were only three sentences inside.

Your father did not abandon you.

Adrian Blackwood knows what happened.

If you want the truth, find him.

Elena had spent three nights thinking about it.

Now she stood outside his company.

She took a deep breath and walked inside.

The receptionist looked up.

"Can I help you?"

"I need to see Adrian Blackwood."

The receptionist immediately shook her head.

"Mr. Blackwood doesn't accept walk-ins."

"I'm not leaving until I speak with him."

The receptionist looked uncomfortable.

"Do you have an appointment?"

"No."

"Then I'm afraid you can't go upstairs."

Elena placed the envelope on the desk.

"Give this to him."

The receptionist opened it.

Her face changed when she saw the photograph.

"I'll call security."

Elena quickly took the envelope back.

"Tell him Elena Moore is here."

The receptionist froze.

"You said your name is Elena Moore?"

"Yes."

She picked up the phone.

"Mr. Blackwood's office, this is reception. There's a woman here named Elena Moore."

There was silence.

Then the receptionist's expression became nervous.

"Understood."

She hung up.

"He'll see you."

Elena's heart began beating faster.

The elevator carried her toward the top floor.

She didn't know that Adrian had already ordered his security team to monitor every camera in the building.

He was watching her through the security system.

When her face appeared on his screen, Adrian stood up.

For the first time in years, genuine fear crossed his face.

"Elena..."

Daniel looked at him.

"Sir, you know her?"

Adrian didn't answer.

He stared at the screen.

She looked exactly like the woman in the photograph.

The woman Adrian had promised to protect.

The woman he had failed.

The elevator doors opened.

Elena stepped onto the top floor.

Adrian turned away from the screen and composed himself.

His cold expression returned.

But beneath that mask, memories he had buried for fifteen years were beginning to awaken.

A knock came at his office door.

"Come in."

Elena entered.

Their eyes met.

For several seconds, neither spoke.

Then Elena placed the envelope on his desk.

"I think you know why I'm here."

Adrian looked at the photograph.

His face became pale.

"Where did you get this?"

"My father left it."

Adrian's eyes lifted toward her.

"Your father is dead."

Elena's expression changed.

"You knew him?"

Adrian stood slowly.

"Elena, you need to leave."

She stared at him.

"Why?"

"Because you don't understand what you're getting involved in."

"I came here because I want the truth."

Adrian walked toward the window.

Outside, the city lights reflected across the glass.

"The truth will destroy you."

Elena stepped closer.

"Maybe. But lies already destroyed my family."

Adrian closed his eyes.

For the first time, the powerful CEO had no answer.

Then his phone rang.

He looked at the screen.

One unknown number.

He answered.

A distorted voice whispered:

"She found you."

The call ended.

Adrian's expression changed.

He immediately looked at Elena.

She noticed the fear in his eyes.

"What happened?"

Adrian slowly turned toward the locked office door.

"Someone knows you're here."

Before Elena could respond, the lights suddenly went out.

The entire floor fell into darkness.

Then a single gunshot echoed through Blackwood Tower.

Adrian grabbed Elena and pulled her behind him.

And in that moment, the woman who had come looking for the truth realized something terrifying.

Adrian Blackwood wasn't afraid of her.

He was afraid of whoever was coming for them.
