Neia isn't just a student at the College of the Arts; she's a cynic who prefers rainy days and dark thoughts to the people around her. She just wants to be left alone in her room with her coffee and her laptop. Her world of cynical detachment is shattered by a violent run-in with Dan, an arrogant and infuriatingly popular student. A bitter exchange in a hallway escalates when Neia throws a rope that hits him, sparking a terrifying chase up six flights of stairs that only ends when Dan catches her and tries to strangle her. After fainting and waking up in the infirmary, Neia is forced into a humiliating apology "truce" by the student council. But the war is far from over.
