“I have to. If I don’t change the story, we both lose.”

She stepped closer, her eyes searching his.

“Do you really believe you can change fate? That you can stop what’s meant to happen?”

Kai finally met her gaze.

“I don’t just believe it. I know it. Because I’ve lived through it once already. The moment the heroine defeats the villain — it’s not a victory. It’s a tragedy.”

Lyria’s lips pressed into a thin line.

“You say that now. But what about all the lives that will be lost if you rewrite the story? The chaos that might follow?”

Kai shook his head slowly.

“I’m not trying to rewrite the entire world. Just the parts where we’re forced into roles that don’t fit anymore. There has to be another way — one where we don’t have to be enemies.”

She sighed, stepping back toward the door.

“You sound like you’re hoping for a miracle.”

Kai stood, determination burning in his eyes.

Before Lyria left, she paused.
