What to Wear to a K-Pop Audition

Your audition starts the moment you walk into the room. Before you sing or dance, judges will notice your appearance, posture, and the way you present yourself.

Your outfit won't get you accepted, but it can make a good first impression. The goal is simple: you want the judges to remember your performance - not your clothes.

In this chapter, I'll share the general tips that apply to almost every K-pop audition. After that, we'll go through each type of audition separately and talk about what to wear, what to prepare, and what judges usually expect.

Choose Comfort First

If your clothes are uncomfortable, it will show. You might keep pulling your shirt down, fixing your sleeves, or thinking about your shoes instead of your performance.

Wear clothes that let you move naturally. Before the audition, practice your entire performance in your audition outfit. Dance, sing, jump, and stretch in it.

If something feels uncomfortable at home, it will feel even worse during the audition.

Never wear a brand-new outfit for the first time on audition day. Test everything several days before your audition.

Keep Your Outfit Simple

Simple outfits almost always work best.

Good choices include:

• plain T-shirts,

• fitted tops,

• simple sweaters,

• comfortable pants,

• leggings,

• cargo pants,

• sneakers.

Choose solid colors like:

Wear shoes that you've already practiced in. Never wear new shoes to an audition. If you're dancing, make sure you can jump, turn, and move comfortably in them.

Think about what you're going to do. If you're dancing, wear clothes that let you move easily. Avoid jeans if they make it hard to bend or kick.

If you're singing, choose something comfortable that helps you breathe easily. Your outfit should match your performance, not fight against it.

Should You Match the Company's Style?

A little, but don't overdo it.

For example:

• SM Entertainment - clean, elegant, and polished. A simple black-and-white outfit works well.

• HYBE - modern and natural. Comfortable streetwear with a clean look is a good choice.

• JYP Entertainment - bright, fresh, and friendly. Light colors and a neat appearance fit well.

• YG Entertainment - confident and stylish. You can show a little more personality, but keep your outfit practical.

Don't try to dress exactly like an idol. Judges want to see you, not someone pretending to be their favorite artist.

Hair and Makeup

Your hair should be clean and neatly styled. If you wear makeup, keep it natural.

The judges want to see your real face. Avoid heavy filters, glitter, dramatic makeup, or hairstyles that cover your eyes.

Helpful Tips

• Iron your clothes before the audition.

• Remove lint or pet hair from dark clothes.

• Make sure your clothes are clean.

• Empty your pockets before performing.

• Tie long hair back if it covers your face.
