Chapter 4 — (The Plan)
Monday — 4:15 p.m. — Haneul High School
The final bell had already rung.
Miho was waiting near the school gate with Han-seok and Me-yongi.
Soo-ah was still inside her classroom.
Han-seok checked his phone.
“She takes forever.”
Miho rolled her eyes.
“She probably got distracted again.”
Me-yongi laughed.
“That sounds like Soo-ah.”
Seo-jun suddenly walked toward Me-yongi.
“Can I talk to you for a minute?”
Me-yongi looked surprised.
“Sure.”
They stepped a little away from the others.
Me-yongi looked at him suspiciously.
“What happened?”
Seo-jun took a breath.
“I need your help.”
“With what?”
He hesitated.
“I want to ask Soo-ah something.”
Me-yongi smiled.
“What?”
“I want to ask her to be with me.”
For a moment, Me-yongi went quiet.
Her fingers tightened slightly around her bag.
Then she smiled.
“Soo-ah?”
Seo-jun nodded.
“I really like her.”
Me-yongi looked away for a second.
Then she smiled again.
“Then you should tell her.”
“I want to do it properly.”
He smiled.
“And I thought you could help me.”
Me-yongi nodded.
“Of course. I'll help.”
Seo-jun looked relieved.
“I knew I could count on you.”
“Always.”
They walked back toward the others.
Miho immediately looked suspicious.
“What were you two talking about?”
Me-yongi smiled.
“You'll find out.”
Han-seok raised an eyebrow.
“That definitely means something.”
Me-yongi laughed.
“Just wait.”
Monday — 7:00 p.m.
Later that evening, Me-yongi told Miho everything.
Miho's eyes widened.
“WAIT! Seo-jun is actually going to confess?”
Me-yongi nodded.
“Yep.”
Miho immediately grinned.
“Then we're throwing a party.”
Me-yongi laughed.
“Exactly.”
Together, they started planning everything.
Food.
Music.
Decorations.
And a perfect moment for Seo-jun and Soo-ah.
Me-yongi helped with every detail.
She wanted Soo-ah to be happy.
Even though a small part of her felt strangely heavy inside.
Wednesday — 4:30 p.m.
The room was finally ready.
Miho looked around proudly.
“Perfect.”
Me-yongi smiled.
“Soo-ah is going to love it.”
Miho picked up her phone.
“Now let's call Han-seok.”
She called him.
“Where are you?”
“At home.”
“Come here.”
“Why?”
“Just come!”
Han-seok laughed.
“Fine. Send me the location.”
A few minutes later, Han-seok arrived.
He walked into the room and stopped.
His eyes widened.
“Are wahhhh!”
Miho laughed.
Han-seok looked around at the decorations.
“Damn, bro! You've already got your girl!”
Me-yongi burst out laughing.
“Han-seok!”
He smirked.
“What? I'm right.”
Miho shook her head.
“You're impossible.”
“Thank you.”
Miho then sent the location to Seo-jun.
MIHO: Bring Soo-ah with you.
SEO-JUN: Why?
MIHO: Just come. Don't tell her anything.
SEO-JUN: Okay.
Me-yongi smiled.
“Now we wait.”
6:15 p.m.
The three friends were waiting for Seo-jun and Soo-ah.
Han-seok looked at the decorations.
“So, what exactly is the plan?”
Miho smiled.
“You'll see.”
Han-seok looked at Me-yongi.
“And you're sure Seo-jun is actually going to do it?”
Me-yongi nodded.
“He told me himself.”
Han-seok grinned.
“Damn. Bro's serious.”
Miho laughed.
“Obviously.”
They continued talking and joking around.
But after a while, Miho noticed Me-yongi becoming unusually quiet.
She looked at her best friend.
“You okay?”
Me-yongi immediately smiled.
“Yeah. I'm fine.”
Han-seok looked at her.
“Nope.”
Me-yongi raised an eyebrow.
“What?”
“You're too quiet.”
“I am not.”
Han-seok picked up a cushion.
“Then prove it.”
He tossed it toward her.
Me-yongi caught it.
“Seriously?”
Miho laughed.
“Get him!”
Me-yongi threw the cushion back.
Han-seok ducked.
“Hey!”
Soon, the three were laughing and messing around.
Me-yongi couldn't stop smiling.
“You two are so annoying!”
Han-seok grinned.
“But you're laughing.”
Miho smiled.
“Mission accomplished.”
For a while, Me-yongi forgot about the sadness she had been hiding.
7:05 p.m. — Seo-jun's House
Seo-jun checked the time.
He grabbed his jacket and phone.
He had been told to bring Soo-ah to the party, so he was finally leaving home to pick her up.
As he stepped outside, his phone suddenly rang.
He looked at the screen.
Soo-ah's Sister.
Seo-jun immediately answered.
“Yes?”
There was no reply.
Instead, he heard someone crying.
“Soo-ah's sister?”
She continued crying.
Seo-jun's expression changed.
“What happened?”
She tried to speak, but her voice kept breaking.
“Seo-jun…”
“Yes? Tell me.”
There was another long pause.
Then she finally managed to speak.
“It's… Soo-ah…”
Seo-jun froze.
“What happened to her?”
Her sister began crying even harder.
“I… I don't know what to do…”
Seo-jun's heart dropped.
“What happened? Please tell me!”
She finally said something that made Seo-jun completely lose his smile.
His hand tightened around the phone.
“What?”
He stood completely still.
The street around him suddenly seemed silent.
“What did you say?”
He listened again.
His face went pale.
“I’m coming.”
He immediately ended the call.
He didn't go to the party.
He didn't pick up Soo-ah.
Instead, he turned around and rushed away.
Meanwhile, at the party, Miho, Me-yongi, and Han-seok were still waiting for them—
completely unaware that something had happened to Soo-ah.
To be continued…
