Chapter 4
The Shape of Staying
Love did not arrive as certainty.
It arrived as choice.
There were days they almost lost each other — to misunderstandings, to fear, to the old habits of leaving before being left. But each time, something pulled them back. A hand on a wrist. A name spoken softly across a room.
Yichen painted differently now. His figures began to turn toward the light. Toward someone.
Minjun learned the language of Yichen’s silences, when to fill them and when to let them breathe. He learned that staying was not passive — it was an act, repeated daily.
One evening, much later, Yichen realized the light had changed again. Softer, yes — but steadier. It filled the room without asking. Minjun stood behind him, arms loose around his waist.
“You still afraid of being seen?” Minjun asked.
Yichen leaned back into him.
“No,” he said. “Only of forgetting this.”
Minjun kissed the place below his ear, gentle and sure.
They stayed.
And the light learned their names.
