1. When Your Eyes Found Mine

Chapter 3

Your Lips

Nut hasn't moved, but something in his posture has changed — barely noticeable, unless you're someone like Hong, who notices everything. The slight shift in how Nut's fingers curl against the fabric of the couch. The way his chest rises, just a little deeper than before. The stillness now is not the kind that calms — it hums.

Nut swallows. He doesn't know what to say. Maybe there isn't anything to say. His heart feels louder than it should be. Not frantic, not panicked — just loud. Present. Aware.

Hong still won't look at him. He stares at the floor like it might offer him refuge, like if he focuses hard enough, the weight of what he just said might float away. But it doesn't. It anchors itself in the quiet between them, gentle but immovable.

Nut:

(quietly)

Hey…

Hong lifts his head. Just a little. Enough to meet his eyes.

And there it is.

That look.

Nut feels it like gravity pulling his chest forward — like the world has just rearranged itself, and he's only now realizing that every path he's taken has led him here, to this exact second.

He's looking at Hong, really looking. The kind of looking you do when you're trying to memorize something, not with your eyes, but with your bones. As if this moment won't last, and he'll need to carry it inside him forever.

Hong:

(small voice)

It's okay. You don't have to say anything.

But Nut wants to.

His mouth opens. Closes again. He can't find the words. Not the right ones. Not the kind that lives in books or movies. Only the kind that blooms at the edge of instinct, where language hasn't caught up yet.

Instead, he shifts — slowly, carefully — like one wrong move might shatter what they've built between them. He slides off the couch, lowering himself until he's on the floor across from Hong. They're close now. Not quite touching, but close enough that he can feel the warmth coming off Hong's skin in slow waves.

Nut:

(soft)

You feel it too, right?

Hong doesn't answer — not with words. But his eyes, dark and narrow, hold something raw and trembling. He nods. Just once.

Nut's hand moves without meaning to him. He reaches out, fingers brushing against Hong's wrist. Just a touch. Barely there. But Hong still draws a shaky breath, like even that contact is too much and not enough all at once.

Nut:

(quiet laugh)

I don't know what this is. But I can't stop thinking about…

(He trails off, eyes dropping to Hong's lips for the briefest second before snapping back up.)

...how close you are.

Hong:

(amused, a little breathless)

I'm not stopping you.

That does it.

Something clicks into place. A door swinging open. A tide giving way.

Nut leans in.

Slow, hesitant, like every centimeter is a question. He watches Hong the whole time, waiting for a sign — a blink, a breath, a pull away.

It never comes.

Their foreheads touch first, soft and uncertain. The space between them hums like electricity gathering charge. Hong's hand comes up to rest lightly on Nut's knee, grounding him. His voice is barely a whisper.

Hong:

Is this okay?

Nut:

Yes.

(A beat. A heartbeat.)

I think I've wanted this longer than I realized.

There's a silence again — but this time, it's the kind that holds its breath in anticipation. The kind before rain, before lightning, before the sky breaks open.

And then, finally —

Nut closes the last bit of distance.

The kiss isn't perfect. It's a little clumsy, a little too soft at first, like both of them are afraid to press too hard in case the other disappears. But it's real. Warm. Tethered in something older than either of them wants to admit.

Hong melts into it like he's been waiting forever. His fingers slide gently into Nut's hair, threading through the mess like he's memorizing the texture.

Outside, the sky deepens into twilight.

The wind lifts again, carrying that strange metallic scent through the half-open window. Somewhere far off, something shifts. Waits.

But none of that matters right now.

Not while Nut's hands are cradling the side of Hong's face.

Not while Hong is breathing against his mouth like he finally remembers what it means to be alive.

For now, the world holds its breath again — soft, golden, and still.

Just the two of them, finally touching the moment they didn't know they'd been waiting for all this time․
