Chapter 6

Chapter 6 final

Jirou is on the couch in the common room when Shouto and Midoriya emerge from the bathroom. The television still hums lowly, and Jirou’s splayed on the couch, her leg hanging off of the edge.

She sticks her hand up to wave at them as they walk past, and wordlessly, they wave back. Shouto wonders momentarily if he should text Yaoyorozu to come get Jirou back to her room before she falls asleep out here—sleeping on couches isn’t good for the neck—but Yaoyorozu is probably asleep by now and surely Jirou can take care of herself.

So, Shouto just follows Midoriya into the kitchen, watching him as he pops open the microwave and sets the bag of popcorn inside before pressing the buttons to input the time.

For a minute and thirty seconds, Midoriya rocks on his heels in front of the microwave, and Shouto leans back against a countertop, intent as ever on just watching him.

Midoriya stops the microwave at one second so that it won’t beep—and then takes the bag out, shaking it as he does so.

“Do we need anything else?” Todoroki inquires.

Midoriya just nods as Shouto grabs them each a water bottle out of the fridge.

As they do make their way back, Midoriya rips open the popcorn bag and tilts it towards Shouto.

And then Shouto’s thinking again about kissing Midoriya—wondering if he’d taste of salt or somehow still taste of honey.

The elevator dings.

“Hey, Todoroki-kun,” Midoriya says as he steps into his room.

Midoriya tosses a piece of popcorn at Shouto’s face.

“You’re supposed to catch it in your mouth.”

The next piece bounces off his nose.

“Again?”

Shouto follows suit, his palms pressed to the carpet behind him.

Midoriya catches practically every piece Shouto throws to him.

—

It’s one in the morning when Shouto and Midoriya find themselves leaning against the railing of Midoriya’s veranda.

Midoriya holds Uraraka’s conversation cards in his hands.

“Are you cold?”

“Come here.”

Midoriya presses into Shouto’s warmth.

“Do you have a crush on anyone?”

“I have a crush on someone.”

“It’s you.”

Midoriya cups Shouto’s cheek and kisses him—brief, careful, honey-soft.

“You’re sure that’s okay?”

“Yeah. Yeah, it’s really okay.”

They kiss again.

“You know, I’m really happy.”

“Me, too.”

“But we should get some sleep, shouldn’t we?”

“Mm.”

And neither of them quite feel like sleeping alone, so they don’t.
