Chapter 5

The Red Notebook — Episode 5: (The Person Behind the Number)

Yuri watched Mrs. Han disappear into the crowd. She wanted to follow her, but remembered the message: “Don't follow her.”

She went back upstairs. The red notebook was still on the bed.

Yuri opened it and checked every page. Names. Dates. Places. Some were crossed out.

One name appeared more than once.

HAN MI-SEON.

Mrs. Han.

Yuri turned the page.

A line caught her attention:

“We still can't prove she's guilty.”

Yuri stopped.

Her parents had been investigating Mrs. Han for years. But they hadn't always believed she was guilty.

She turned another page.

August 16 — seven years ago.

Under it:

“Something went wrong again.”

That was all.

Yuri heard footsteps outside. She quickly closed the notebook and hid it under the mattress.

Her phone buzzed.

Unknown Number.

“Did you find anything?”

Yuri stared at the screen.

“Who are you?”

The reply came almost immediately.

“Someone who knows the truth about Mrs. Han.”

Yuri typed:

“Then tell me the truth.”

A few seconds passed.

“I can't. Not yet.”

Another message appeared.

“But the notebook can.”

Yuri froze.

They knew about the notebook.

Before she could reply, the hotel door opened.

Her parents were back.

Yuri quickly locked her phone and smiled.

“Everything okay?” her mother asked.

“Yeah.”

She didn't tell them about the notebook.

She didn't tell them about the messages.

And she definitely didn't tell them about Mrs. Han.

Now Yuri had a new question:

Who was behind the number—and how did they know about the red notebook?
